Giga Pets Trolls

The Giga Pets Troll is the second new toy to come from Top Secret Toys. There’s not a lack of content here per se, but it feels needlessly complicated in some areas.

The first important point to bring up about this pet is one of the selling points on the box- it can’t die. Even if you’re busy and can’t always take care of it or if it’s small child playing with it, it’ll just keep sticking around. There’s no kind of growth here, but there is an in-game hair-length-counter that will get longer the longer you take care of it.

There’s no real variety when it comes to growth here, and the troll is… It can be odd to look at. When you aren’t playing a game or feeding it, the screen displays the troll’s eyes, akin to the old Poo-Chi toys. I personally found it jarring to switch between that and the smaller rendition of the troll when playing games or otherwise interacting with it.

It’s similar to the previous versions released, with food, games, baths, etc… The games were a little bit strange. The main game is a skating game. If you lose, you’re sent into a slot-machine-type game where you have to line up the troll’s matching pairs of eyes. Doing so will earn a little bit of happiness. If your troll becomes too unhappy, it will refuse to play this game. There’s a separate menu with a separate selection of games to play to boost its happiness back to the threshold so it will play the regular game again. I admit that I don’t understand the point of having these separate types of games instead of having them function “normally.” There are ways to incorporate variety without making it feel forced.
The sound is another point I wanted to quickly touch on… To be honest, I find this one irritating. The eyes make a clinking sound as they “bounce” against the sides… And it likes to scream a lot. It’s a short, high-pitched sound that I quickly came to dislike. It’s possible to disable the sound and it can’t die if you miss a care-call, so it’s not the biggest problem in the world, but I still preferred the relatively unintrusive sounds of the previous release.

This definitely wasn’t toy for me. Most of the features I honestly found more irritating than charming. However, I can definitely see there being people this would appeal to. With a price point similar to the Giga Pets AR, it's very approachable if you're curious about it.
